Riviera Sports Motor Yacht construction update – Part V

smy-main

The Riviera team has reached an exciting milestone after the first of our magnificent new Sports Motor Yachts, a 68 model, left the construction bay for the first time and was carefully lowered into the waters of our marina.

This was the very first time that she was rolled out into the sunlight and the full beauty of her lines and the scale of the beautiful new motor yacht were revealed for the first time.

Before this exciting event could take place, a great deal of work went into completing the flybridge of this extraordinary motor yacht. The sliding sunroof and roof hatch were installed and the flybridge hardtop  trim was given a coat of Tungsten Silver paint. Then the entire flybridge section was carefully lifted and fitted into place. The superstructure complete, the massive stainless steel framed awning windows, one between the external mezzanine and the galley and the other on the flybridge, were fitted, all the other external windows were completed and the deck hatches placed and sealed.

This is a milestone moment in the development of each new Riviera model. The motor yacht was floated in the slings of the travelift and the designers and engineers measured a range of metrics that showed that she sits in the water exactly as our talented design team expected and that stability is perfect. Checking her weight also provided key information for the team to ensure that the propellers will be calibrated to exactly the right size and pitch for optimal performance. This event also gives the team the opportunity to test all skin fittings and engine inlets and exhaust outlets.

With the flybridge in place, a second key test was completed.  The interior was put under vacuum and water sprayed across the motor yacht to ensure that she is water-tight.

Focus on Fitout

Even as the superstructure was being completed, the team was working diligently on the internal fitout of the motor yacht.

In the accommodation deck, headliners and overhead lighting have been installed in all four cabins.

The master stateroom internal bulkheads have been installed and the bathroom door fitted. Port and starboard wardrobes have been fitted and air conditioning pelmets completed.

The forward guest stateroom has its port and starboard wardrobes fitted and overhead lockers fitted into place. In the en-suite bathroom, the vanity and overhead lockers have also been fitted.

The port and starboard midship cabins, wardrobes are fitted. In the port twin cabin, the outboard bed base is in place as is the bedside cabinet. The bed bases for the bunks in the starboard cabin have also been installed.

Flooring in the main saloon of this most luxurious motor yacht has been laid, the headliner and feature lighting have been installed. All air conditioning units and ducting for this space have now been installed.

Designer Stephen Ford says the pantograph door in the main saloon was customised for the Riviera Sports Motor Yacht. It provides both the strength of a water-tight seal and ease of access to the port side deck for docking and foredeck access.

The staircase between saloon and flybridge is now in place and work on the fitout of the flybridge  is proceeding smoothly, with the massive helm station and its wiring harnesses and fuses installed. The helm station on this boat will accommodate a standard three 24-inch navigation screens and the team has developed the station to offer an option for four 22-inch screens on future builds.

The headliner and pelmets in the flybridge are in place and the entertainment cabinet has been fitted. The starboard forward lounge and rear lounge bases are also in place.

In the cockpit, teak decking has been laid and the transom bait tank fitted.

The motor yacht’s engine room vents are now in place and wiring systems in the engine room itself is well advanced.

Second 68 Sports Motor Yacht – and Beyond

While the strong focus for the team has been on sports motor yacht hull No. 1, work is proceeding well on fulfilling the dreams for owners of the second of these magnificent craft, also a 68 model, and now two 72 Sports Motor Yachts have commenced production.

The 68 Sports Motor Yacht will be launched in June and will make her world premiere at the Sydney International Boat Show from Thursday, August 3 to Monday, August 7.
