Riviera Aftermarket repairs damaged motor yachts from Cyclone Debbie

Riviera’s Aftermarket team is in constant demand to refine, add and alter Rivieras of every shape, size and age.

Recently the talented team headed by Michael Swain has been working hard to return six Rivieras damaged during Cyclone Debbie to pristine condition for their owners.

The cyclone devastated much of the Whitsunday Islands region at the end of March.

Insurer Club Marine’s National Claims Technical Manager said it was the “largest catastrophic weather event I’ve seen”.

He said virtually all boats at the marinas he visited were “damaged in one way or another”.

The Riviera Aftermarket team, working closely with the Whitsundays office of R Marine Crawley, brought a number of damaged motor yachts south to the company’s Coomera yard in south-east Queensland.

Among them, a Riviera 48 Flybridge suffered a large hole in the starboard hull side, flooding the accommodation deck. It returned to the Riviera yard at Coomera after being made watertight with a panel being fibreglassed over the hole.

Today, it is impossible to notice a blemish on the hull.

“We are delighted that we have been able to restore the hull to original condition,” said Michael. “Now we are working to fully restore the interior. The owner has asked us to make a range of modifications while it is in our yard, including replacing the saloon carpet with timber flooring.”

Another owner was devastated when his motor yacht suffered damage to the hull, severe structural damage to the hydraulic boarding platform and bent bow rails. The motor yacht had been on the market for sale at the time the cyclone struck.

It, too, returned to the Aftermarket facility for repair.

“By the time we had completed the work, the owner showed a prospective buyer over the motor yacht,” said Michael. “I am delighted to say that she looks like new and is now with a new owner.”

Riviera Aftermarket regularly provides services including the addition of hydraulic swim platforms and tuna towers and even remodelled interiors.
