Sam Tapping submitted this photo of his Riviera 37 Flybridge, Mantary 2, off Tasmania’s Maria Island and it has been named our winner for this month’s Photo and Video Competition.
The Tapping family – including wife Amanda and their children Olive and Howard – were on their way from the small fishing village of Triabunna, where Mantaray 2 is moored on the east coast of Tasmania, heading towards Hobart. Mantaray 2 was scheduled to be slipped ‘for some love’.
Howard, 16, took the photo with his DJI Mavic spark drone to capture the magical sunset scene.
“This was the first night’s stop in Chinamans Bay on Maria Island at the end of March just before we were locked down,” says Sam.
“Chinamans is one of our favourite spots where we normally go for the weekend as it’s close to Triabunna. On a long weekend or holidays, we head up to the Freycinet Peninsula which is next level as it is breathtaking.”
“We get all types of weather in this anchorage and were fortunate for such a still night for this photo. Generally, it’s quite calm but I have been anchored in 35 knots before and slept like a baby.”
The Tapping family enjoy a Riviera escape as often as possible and can’t wait to get back to boating when they can.
“We use it as our shack and have a few friends that also have boat, so it always lot of fun rafting up,” says Sam.
