When R Marine Mandurah stages a celebration, its fun-loving family of Riviera luxury motor yacht owners are always assured of a terrific time with like-minded people.
And so it was with the Australia Day Getaway, when 23 luxury motor yachts and 70 people experienced a four-day weekend afloat in the waters of Western Australia enjoying everything uniquely Aussie.
The weekend commenced with a raft-up at South of Perth Yacht Club on the Swan River with the best of Australian music, food, fun and friendship … topped off by a DJ onboard the R Bar 445 SUV and the presentation of special Riviera flags to participants.
On Friday the flotilla then cruised south to Mangles Bay, Palm Beach for the very popular Get Roasted on the Beach event that this year was themed White, White and more White … and was attended by the alter-egos of astronaut Neil Armstrong, Princess Leah of Star Wars fame and even Snow White. There were jet pack rides and a huge Australia Day slide to set the scene of celebration.
A delicious buffet breakfast at the Cruising Yacht Club was a great way to start Saturday before a cruise in convoy through the Challenger Passage to Rottnest Island Hotel for an afternoon of pizza, refreshments and stories of cruising adventure topped off with The Beatles and Rolling Stones tribute bands.
Noel Parora, who owns the 3600 Sport Yacht Sebatical with his wife Carolyn, said it was difficult to pinpoint his favourite part of the weekend.
“Everything was organised very well and everything was great fun but the Get Roasted event was a really good day,” he said.
“This is our second Australia Day Getaway that, we’ve done in full, although we were able to participate in half of last year’s event … so I guess you could say we’ve now done two-and-a-half!”
The weekend finished with a Sunday afternoon at the Rottnest Hotel, where guests enjoyed canapés and great music before heading home.
